Hurt by Words

You sit there playing your stupid mind games,
Not realizing what you’re doing to those around you.
You think “hey it’s just a joke” and “I didn’t mean anything by it, babe”.
But you, you fail to see the pain in those words,
The way they stab me in the heart.
The way they cut deep, real deep.
They cut into my heart, almost deep enough to slice right through it.
But then the sweet, sensitive words that you say,
In apology are the ones with the most meaning.
And those words, the ones you say to me,
Are the ones that bring tears to my eyes,
Tears of happiness and joy.
And that is why, my dear, you must always watch what you say,
Especially to the people you love most.
